Blog # 2 - The Suite Life of Lucy and Ethel
(Actually, this used to be Blog #1!)

My good friend, Cindy Schaefer, decided we didn't have enough to do, so we entered the wide, wide world of blogging! Considering the only thing we knew about blogs at the beginning of February (2009!) was how to spell it, we've come a LONG way.

In 1997, our third baby, Jeffrey, was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy. Cindy and her husband, Glenn, were trying to round up interest in a North Carolina chapter of Families of SMA, as their son, Kevin, had also been diagnosed with a milder form of SMA. In a nutshell, which is where we stay most of the time, I responded to Cindy's chapter plans, Jeffrey earned his wings (Kevin is now 15!), Cindy and I met in person, our friendship ventured way beyond the confines of SMA, I wrote The Jeffrey Journey and asked Cindy to write the foreword, and at some point it seemed fitting to dub ourselves 'Lucy' (me) and 'Ethel' (Cindy).

As we frequently mention meeting at The Suite for an escape from the lunacy of life, the blog is aptly called
The Suite Life of Lucy and Ethel.

SMA is a major focus of the blog (sharing experiences of life - and death - with SMA and trying to educate others), but it's not the only one. There's a lot of wackiness in our worlds, so stop by and have some fun!
